Approximately 55% of the Central European output of bathroom furniture and mirror cabinets originates from factories in Germany and Italy. Thereby, the total production volume has decreased by 207 million Euro, equal to 13.9%, from 2007 to 2013.

The volume of imports is also declining, however, this value has only decreased by 10.7% in the last 5 years since 2008.

The export is still suffering from the extreme setback during the global economic crisis in 2008. Afterwards, the markets have not been able to recover sufficiently. Until 2013, the export volume in Central Europe has considerably declined by 15.8%.

The domestic market supply of Central Europe has reached its highest value in 2007 with 1,628 million Euro. After a short temporary peak in 2010, the value is continuously dropping. The current value of 1,421 million Euros equals a decrease of 12.7%. A positive development can only be detected in the German-speaking countries Germany, Austria and Switzerland.

All numerical data refers to net manufacturing sales prices.

A significant concentration of manufacturers is observed in Central Europe.

A total of 207 manufacturers are currently producing bathroom furniture and mirror cabinets in the nine investigated countries. 113 of these, which is equal to 54.6%, are located in the two largest manufacturing countries in Germany and Italy.

The furniture- and kitchen trade is the main distribution channel with more than 35% market share. In Austria and France, the share even rises above the mark of 40%. DIY stores and the bathroom- and sanitary trade both achieve around 21%. The German-speaking countries prevent an even higher proportion of the DIY stores.

Mail order reaches 12% and continues to grow. The larger countries Germany and Great Britain accomplish a market share of 17%. The contract business and the other stationary distribution channels each reach about 5% of the market.

With regards to product lines, the individually planned bathroom furniture easily reach the top position with 37.1%. Only Great Britain and France prevent a higher value. The non-changeable bathroom furniture are following with almost 20% and no major shifts by countries. Single units achieve nearly 18% with only Italy exceeding. Block bathroom furniture accomplish 12.5%. The aggressive pricing markets Great Britain and France reach much higher values.

Mirror cabinets reach a market share of 13% and a total value of 181 million Euro at manufacturing sales prices. Thereof, more than one half is distributed in Germany and France.
